What you need to know

01

Collagen is not a beauty supplement in disguise

Tendons, ligaments, joints and bone are collagen. Men lose about 1% a year from the late twenties, and training accelerates the wear.

02

Dosed for training, not for skin

The beauty products carry 2.5–5g. The joint and tendon trials used 10–20g. KUDU is 20g in one shot, taken an hour before you train.

03

Batch-tested, no sugar, no fuss

Informed Sport certified, 85 calories, 0g sugar, ready to drink. Add creatine with the C+C sachet if you lift.

Collagen for men: built for tendons, joints, strength and recovery

The best collagen for men is the one dosed for the research on tendons, joints and training, not the one dosed for the beauty aisle. Tendons, ligaments and cartilage are mostly collagen, and they are the tissues that get you injured, that slow recovery, and that stiffen up first after 35. KUDU delivers 20,000mg of hydrolysed bovine collagen (20g of protein) in a 63ml ready-to-drink sachet with 0g sugar and 85 calories, Informed Sport certified and made in the UK. Not beauty collagen. Performance collagen.

What the evidence says collagen does for men who train

Tendons and ligaments

Shaw 2017 gave 15g of gelatin with vitamin C about an hour before exercise and saw markers of collagen synthesis roughly double. Lee 2023 found a dose-response: 30g beat 15g, and 15g beat none. Aussieker 2023, to be straight about it, found no increase in connective-tissue synthesis after exercise in that trial. Over longer periods, Praet 2019 (2.5g, six months) reported better Achilles tendinopathy outcomes alongside rehab, Dressler 2018 (5g, six months) studied chronic ankle instability, and Jerger 2022 (5g, 14 weeks) measured Achilles cross-sectional area. Read collagen for tendonitis and collagen for plantar fasciitis.

Joints

Zdzieblik 2017 gave 5g for 12 weeks to active adults with activity-related knee pain, and Clark 2008 gave 10g for 24 weeks to athletes with joint pain. Those two trials are the ones the joint evidence rests on. See does collagen help joint pain.

Strength and body composition

Three separate trials, Zdzieblik 2015, Kirmse 2019 and Jendricke 2019, combined 15g of collagen peptides a day with 12 weeks of resistance training and reported better body-composition and strength outcomes than training alone. Collagen is not a complete protein, so it adds to your whey or food protein rather than replacing it. Paul 2019 put the safe ceiling at about 36% of daily protein intake. Compare in collagen vs whey protein.

Recovery

Clifford 2019 used 20g a day for nine days around muscle-damaging exercise and measured soreness, which is why the KUDU sachet is 20g rather than 10g. More in how collagen aids recovery.

Creatine monohydrate is the most-studied sports supplement there is. Kreider 2017 and Antonio 2021 reviewed the safety data and settled on 3 to 5g a day as the maintenance dose, and Avgerinos 2018 reviewed its effects on cognition. Collagen looks after connective tissue; creatine looks after the power output that loads it. Taking them together in one sachet is the simplest way to cover both. Straight answers on hair and testosterone

Two questions men ask that deserve honest answers. Hair: there is no good evidence that collagen regrows hair or reverses male pattern hair loss. Hexsel 2017 found 2.5g a day improved nail growth and brittleness over 24 weeks, and skin trials at 2.5 to 5g (Proksch 2014, de Miranda 2021) show elasticity benefits, but hair regrowth is not among the findings. Testosterone: there is no evidence that collagen raises testosterone, and we will not pretend otherwise. What the evidence does support is tendons, joints, strength alongside training, and recovery. More in collagen for men: what it does and doesn't do and collagen for hair and nails.

How to take collagen for training

  1. Training days: one sachet 30 to 60 minutes before your session, the timing Shaw 2017 used. Add vitamin C from fruit, or use the Collagen + Creatine sachet, which includes it.
  2. Rest days: one sachet any time. Consistency matters more than timing.
  3. Dose: the strength and recovery trials used 15 to 20g; tendon and joint trials 2.5 to 10g. One sachet covers all of them. Detail in collagen dosage for athletes.
  4. Give it 12 weeks. Every strength trial ran 12 weeks; the tendon trials ran 14 weeks to six months. Subscribe from Β£1.99 a sachet and pause, skip or cancel in two clicks.

Collagen for men FAQs

Should men take collagen?

If you train, run, lift or have joints and tendons that complain, the evidence for hydrolysed collagen is worth acting on. The tendon, joint and strength trials were run largely in active men and women, at 2.5 to 20g a day for 12 to 24 weeks.

What is the best collagen for men?

Hydrolysed bovine collagen, type I and III, at a dose of 15 to 20g a day, Informed Sport certified if you compete. Marine beauty shots at 5g are dosed for skin, not for connective tissue under load.

Can I take collagen with creatine?

Yes. They do different jobs and there is no interaction. KUDU's Collagen + Creatine sachet combines 10g collagen with 5g creatine monohydrate and vitamin C in one serving.

Does collagen help with hair loss in men?

No evidence supports collagen for regrowing hair or reversing male pattern hair loss. It does have evidence for nails (Hexsel 2017) and skin elasticity.

Does collagen affect testosterone?

No. There is no evidence that collagen raises or lowers testosterone. It is a food protein.

Is KUDU safe for drug-tested athletes?

Yes. The 20g liquid collagen is Informed Sport certified, so every batch is tested for banned substances. The Collagen + Creatine sachet is not yet on the Informed Sport programme, so if you are drug-tested, use the liquid shot and a separately certified creatine.
